1940s Lightning Ridge Black Opal Custer Ring

The best souvenir from Australia, apart from Indigenous Art, must be a Lightning Ridge Opal?! Here we have a 1940s 0.80ct round black Lightning Ridge Opal, which has been claw set within a cluster border of 12 single cut Diamonds, and 4 single cut Diamonds on the shoulder, totalling 0.50ct of Diamonds and set in 18ct white gold. The solid Opal has predominantly blue and green flash colour, and it has been beautifully paired with the glint of diamonds in white gold.

1940s:
During the 40s, women’s clothing became more masculine with structured shoulders and nipped waists, so their jewellery became more feminine. Large brooches set with colourful jewels made their way into the spotlight and larger, more layered necklaces adorned the necks of most women who frequented lavish soirees. Larger rings with more angular cut stones were also popular and often incorporated the stepped shoulder design used during the Art Deco period that preceded it.
