Antique Victorian 15ct Ruby and Diamond Bangle

A remarkable piece of wearable history — a Victorian ruby and diamond hinged bangle, made around the year 1895. This bangle is over 130 years old and in superb condition. Set in warm 15ct yellow gold, the slender bangle is studded with nine graduated natural oval rubies totalling 1.65ct. These rubies are unusually large and of fine calibre — vivid, saturated colour with exceptional clarity — a combination that is increasingly rare on the market today. Accompanied by 18 old cut diamonds (total 0.30ct) in a delicate bead setting, the contrast between the rubies’ rich red and the gold is quietly luxurious.

Pieces of this quality — substantial natural rubies in original period settings — are hard to source. They speak to an era when gemstones were chosen for character and colour, not just size, and when craftsmanship balanced elegance with everyday wearability.

Wearing it now, the bangle feels effortlessly modern. By day it lifts a tailored shirt or dress with a refined pop of colour; layered with thin bracelets or a watch it creates a contemporary stacked look. By evening it becomes a discreetly dramatic accent to any outfit, catching light with antique sparkle without overwhelming your outfit. The hinged construction ensures comfort and secure wear, making it as practical as it is beautiful.
